The influence of athletes in our culture was put to good use not long ago. Many people in the panhandle of Western Nebraska are aware of the rivalry that exists between the Scottsbluff Bearcats and the Gering Bulldogs. The boys basketball teams from these two schools took to the basketball court last weekend and as they did, those involved in FCA seized an opportunity to minister to middle school students from both schools. During halftime of the game Middle School Huddle Coaches Todd Boggs and Ben Treffer from Gering along with Bert Wright and Mark Willats from Scottsbluff organized two standout athletes from each school to talk to their middle school groups about their relationship with Jesus Christ. I remember when I was in Middle School and how I looked up to the athletes that competed in High School. They were local heroes that we all wanted to be like. As I personally know the high school students who spoke, I can only imagine the impact this must have had in the lives of the middle school kids who listened to what these girls were all about. Thank you Maddie Holscher (Scottsbluff) and Libby Joekel (Gering) for Glorifying our Savior and having an impact in the lives of these Middle School kids. I am sure this is something they will remember for years to come. Thank you Todd, Ben, Bert, and Mark for organizing this and making it happen. Praise the Lord for His Grace that makes it possible to be saved from His wrath for our sin. It is this message communicated through local heroes such as Maddie and Libby that will change lives for His Glory!
