This past Sunday, former Olympian and Congressman Jim Ryun was the featured guest at two FCA events in Kearney, NE.  In the afternoon, a small group of around 50 coaches and athletes gathered at Brown Church Development’s conference rooms to meet Jim Ryun and hear him speak about some of his life experiences as a runner.  Jim shared some incredible stories of what was going on behind the scenes as he broke the world record in the mile and won a silver medal in the Olympic Games.  He also shared about coming to faith in Jesus Christ.

In the evening, the Central Nebraska FCA hosted its 2nd Annual Legacy Banquet at the new Younes Center in Kearney.  Over 425 people attended the event.  Once again, featured guest Jim Ryun was the speaker and share many stories of his experiences as a runner and how he came to faith in Jesus Christ.  The audience also enjoyed watching an video from ABC’s Wide World of Sports showing Jim Ryun break the world record in the one mile race by running it in 3.51.  The legacy of the Lexington FCA ministry was highlighted as many Lexington FCA alums and leaders came back for the event.  The goals of the event were to raise funds to support camp scholarships and the area FCA ministry, to present the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to celebrate the legacy of the gospel in and through the FCA ministry.
