I grew up in a broken home and didn’t have the opportunity to attend church, but my high school coach encouraged me to attend an FCA camp after my junior year. It was there that I first met Prince Amukamara who would later become one of my teammates at Nebraska. While my main reason for attending FCA camp was to get noticed by college coaches who I thought might offer me a scholarship, something much more important took place at camp.
While I remember my dad reading me a few bible stories when I was younger, I never understood that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and that he paid the penalty of sin with his death on the cross for sinners. I had never realized that everyone is a sinner that needs to be forgiven by God. This is exactly the message I heard at camp that summer. However, it wasn’t until I returned to that same camp the next year that I turned from my sin and placed my trust and faith in Christ.
Since coming to Nebraska, the Lord has taught me the importance of studying the Bible. I try to read and study it every day. Now, it has become my playbook for life.
Favorite verse: 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
