FCA kickoff at Orchard-Clearwater

(Courtesy of Neligh News) The newest organization at Clearwater-Orchard kicks off soon. But it’s not a school organization; it’s a sports organization.

Teachers Brian and Molly Maronde are starting a new Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at Clearwater-Orchard for junior high and high school students. The kickoff event will be Sunday, March 10, at 5 p.m. at the Orchard gym.

Molly Maronde said she and her husband were both involved in FCA in high school and while attending Doane College in Crete. Molly teaches second grade and coaches girls basketball while Brian teaches science and coaches football and basketball.

“Sports and God are a huge part of our lives, and FCA has provided us with a lot of guidance and encouragement,” Maronde said. “Brian and I see a need for Christ in our school and want to share God’s love through FCA.”

Maronde describes FCA as a sports organization that helps empower students and coaches.

“It helps students look at sports and their lives through a Godly point of view instead of the world point of view,” she said. “At this event we will have several speakers share about how Christ has impacted their lives and share what FCA is all about.”

Justin Raulston, a pastor and youth leader in Wayne, as well as several Wayne State athletes will share testimonies and stories at the kickoff. Josh Reynolds, a Nebraska FCA coordinator, will also share information about the organization, Maronde said. A free meal will also be served to the students.

After the kickoff, the local chapter will meet biweekly, where they will have devotion, discuss issues that students are facing and play games.

“We don’t know how many to expect at this event. We hope that many students will come and see what it is all about,” Maronde said. “You don’t have to be in sports to join.  We hope there is a great turnout for Clearwater-Orchard. We’ve been praying a lot about it.”
