Often times when we hear the words of 2 Corinthians 5:20, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God,” and we shudder in fear. This is not a healthy fear of God, but rather a sinful fear of man. If it is true that Christ has made us right with God through His death on the cross, satisfying the wrath of His Father sitting against our sin and crediting His righteousness to us, and we have repented of our sin and believed in the finished work on the cross, we have been enabled to represent Christ. Not only do we have that freedom, but we also have been called to share the reason for our hope.
“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” -1 Peter 3:15
