Booster Club volunteers met with FCA Staff recently to sharpen their skills and prepare for ministry in their communities. The training featured how to bring one-day sports clinics into a local community as well as idea-sharing of different ministry opportunities Booster Clubs are hosting across the state. Communities that were represented include Elmwood-Murdock, Sutton, Plattsmouth, Papillion-LaVista and Norris. Be watching for more training opportunites across the state!

Hundreds of student athletes have walked the hallways of Plattsmouth who are now graduated and leading businesses and families of their own. One of those student athletes is now a lawyer and proud family man by the name of Niel Nielsen. Niel who was at one time impacted greatly by the ministry of FCA where he heard the Gospel and was saved is now following the example of Larry and Jan Stuckey as he now stewards his own community at Millard North High School where his oldest son is now a student.

Niel is now a part of about 12 parents who have come together this year to form what is known as the Millard North FCA Booster Club. The primary focus of this Booster Club is to support and expand the current FCA ministry that is taking place through the Huddle at Millard North. They pray for coaches, teachers, and student athletes and have thought strategically about how they as a booster club can spearhead ministry that would impact the halls of the High School.

As the group has been meeting this year they decided that they wanted to host a Coaches Appreciation breakfast. The President of the booster club Keith Walters and his wife Karen had this to say about the idea for the breakfast. “I guess the reason that we wanted to do the breakfast was to show appreciation for the coaches who work so hard teaching and training our children. We thought that this would be the best way to show the love of Christ to those who invest so much time and energy into helping our children become better athletes. “

The idea is simple but the results can be so powerful. As a result to the breakfast 12 coaches showed up and were blessed by a terrific breakfast that each member of the booster club chipped in to put together. More important than the great food and fellowship was the fact that this opportunity also set the stage to share the Gospel with each one of these coaches in attendance.

Any booster club can replicate this idea. The process was simple. The Booster Club approached the athletic director with the idea, flyers were printed off and emailed to all of the coaches and then a simple program was put together designed to thank the coaches and share the Gospel. It was a great team effort with the coordinating of the food and many were blessed because of the event. Great job Millard North Booster Club!
